I studied this one out and found that it's not exactly the best translation for what God wants to mean here. The word "deferred" in Hebrew is "mashak" which means: to sow, to draw, to sound, to prolong, to develop. With this in mind the scripture means: If we stop hoping, our hearts will get sick and have nothing to look fwd to, but a hope fulfilled energizes you. When we stop looking fwd to the good stuff we live in constant disappointment. If we hope then we live in constant joyful expectation of what our Father in heaven is going to do for us because he loves us and wants us to be happy. We're his kids!
